DAD IMPROVES ENGINEERING PRODUCTIVITY
The normal manner of designing systems requires that connections are drawn. This is inefficient and error prone.
Now you have an alternative - DAD. You design by creating a polydimensional model and then produce traditional drawings from the data.
DAD is not 'vapour ware' or difficult to learn - you can test all our claims by trying DAD free.
I&E Systems are developers of DAD and also an engineering company. So we have extensive experience of applying it on real projects. Using DAD we have found that:
- Engineering costs are reduced by between 50% and 85%
- Design duration is cut and/or the team size reduced
- There are between 5% and 15% material cost savings as less spare capacity is required for design omissions or errors
- Close out and hand over costs are slashed by at least 80%
- Copying data, say completing the design for one train and then copying for an identical train makes for fantastic time savings
- Design changes can be fully managed and accounted for.
I&E Systems won the 2007 IET Innovation Award "Software in Design" for the application of DAD on an instrumentation project with a reduction of 85% in the manhours required for the detail design of an instrumentation system.

There is a trade off between accuracy, number of drawings and cost as shown in the figure below. It is impossible to achieve full accuracy with drawings due to the exponentially rising cost.
Efficiency improves relative to traditional documents as the size of the design increases.
CHECKING/ACCURACY
Each piece of information is stored only once in DAD so any drawing or document published always shows the current value. So checking is simple:
- You must decide if the current value is correct
- You must decide if you need to republish any documents.
The checking that must be done when individual drawings contain separate instances of the information is no longer required. The work making drawing cross references is not required because the model integrates the design.
DRAWING TIME
All drawings are published from DAD in minutes. There is at least a 95% time saving. Drawing office co-ordination activities are eliminated. You may also save office space and CAD license fees.
DESIGN TIME
The actual design process is accelerated as there is no long wait for initial issue of the drawing set. However the creative side of the design may actually be extended with DAD when more care is taken to consider options and to enter data that was previously ignored in design.
TRANSFER OF DATA TO OTHER PROJECT ACTIVITIES
If you use DAD to prepare the estimate, to record the actual costs and to measure progress then you will save significantly on the cost of transferring data. You will also avoid problems in keeping these activities in sync with design (changes). All materials can be taken off directly within the model. So you can revisit the spare capacity usually allowed in switchboards, cables and PLC's. These are often set very high for reasons clouded in the mists of past projects.
REUSE EXISTING DATA
Any time you can re-use data you save time and avoid errors. It is easy to re-use data in DAD.
